Artist Village

Benczúrfalva —

an artist village in the past to become the Artist Village of the future —

In addition to providing tuition and a forum for arts, the Gyula Benczúr Art Academy offers a unique opportunity for the development of Benczúrfalva into a genuine ‘Artist Village’. As a catalyst for further development the Academy plans to play a major role in the revitalization of the village and of its surroundings, in creating a continuously living place filled with the theme of art. The positive side effects of the cultural initiative in Benczúrfalva would be new employment and income opportunities for the inhabitants of the village, and the creation of a solid, quality cultural-tourism around Benczúrfalva.

Benczúrfalva’s most beautiful surroundings are the key elements considered to serve the Art Academy. After restoring Gyula Benczúr’s manor house and atelier, as well as its park, a relevant step to restore the neglected legacy of Gyula Benczúr will be achieved. An impressive part of Hungarian cultural heritage giving testimony of the thousands of years old history of the nation will be preserved.

Located in a magnificent rural setting, the Art Academy is to provide a unique opportunity of combining art and nature. The picturesque surroundings enable the implementation of several activities leading to a year-round functioning of the Academy. Villagers, students, researchers and artists etc. will profit from the cultural synergy available due to Gyula Benczúr ‘s legacy.
